Control of anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum musae, on postharvest organic banana by thyme oil

•Thyme oil in vitro has a fungicidal effect against Colletotrichum musae.•Thyme oil reduces C. musae severity on organic banana.•Essential oil no have negative influence on physico-chemical and sensorial quality.•The postharvest export life of organic banana was prolonged by thyme oil treatment.
