Effect of the organizational difference of corn stalk on hemicellulose extraction and enzymatic hydrolysis

•CS was divided into leaf, bark and pith for follow-up experiments, respectively.•Effectively removed non-structural components by water and ethanol extraction.•Organizational difference had different performance during alkali extraction.•The purity, color value and molecular weight of xylans were characterized.•Enzymatic hydrolysis of xylans obtained from different parts by alkaline xylanase.
