•A new SiC/water three-phase thermosyphon system is built and examined.•Temperature distribution of the three-phase system is investigated.•Particle size and solid holdup affect the thermal performance of THPCT.•Thermal resistance decreases because of the existence of solid particles.•The THPCT with 0.275 mm SiC shows better thermal performance.
