Abstract
•Organic chemistry synthesis concepts have been smartly tailored to catalysts’ development.•Rational manipulation of ceria-samaria shape/morphology is reported for first time.•Coupling microwave with reflux led to T50 decrease by 130 °C in the CO oxidation reaction.•Engineering of oxygen vacancies through enhanced microwave synthesis.•CO2-philicity, and oxygen vacancies can be tuned by synthesis.
