Analysis Of The Serum Isatin, An Endogenous Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor, In Aging And Alzheimer'S Disease

Background: Isatin, an endogenous monoamine oxidase (MAO)-A and -B inhibitor, distributes in all organs. Isatin makes monoamine in rat brain increased. MAO plays an important role in the metabolic regulation as metabolic enzyme of monoamine which is neurotransmitter substance. The MAO activity in both brain and platelet increase according to age. Several reports indicate that both A and B forms of MAO are altered in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson's disease.
