Adult Human Neurogenesis: Less Limited Than Previously Thought

Background: We have recently described a potential neurogenic system in the adult human brain, which arises from the circunventricular organ zones and follows through the neural circuitry, involving structures of the hypothalamus and limbic system. This description seems to disagree with the current concept that mammalian brains (including the human brain) harbor primarily two neurogenic niches: the subventricular zone and the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus.
