•A pectic polysaccharide was isolated from Zizyphus jujuba cv. Junzao.•The structure of ZJP was characterized by chemical analysis, FT-IR, NMR and GPC-MALLS.•ZJP showed strong anti-inflammatory activity on RAW 264.7 cells.•ZJP could be used to treat inflammatory disease or in health products.
