Abstract
•UFG Mg alloy was fabricated by forging at room temperature.•Improvements in strength and corrosion resistance were realized.•The yield strength increment coincides well with the Bailey-Hirsch equation.•UFG structure is responsible for the enhanced corrosion resistance.
