Abstract
•Seven new withanolides and four known ones were isolated from Nicandra physaloides.•The anti-oxidative stress effects of compounds 1–11 in LO2 cells were investigated.•Compound 11 enhanced the activities of SOD, CAT, GSH and inhibited ROS generation.•Compound 11 showed activity via Nrf-2 mediated heme oxygenase-1 expression.
