Encapsulation and release of Zafirlukast from electrospun polyisobutylene-based thermoplastic elastomeric fiber mat

•Free-standing fiber mats were electrospun from a thermoplastic elastomer.•The rubbery fiber mats were found to be non-cytotoxic.•An anti-inflammatory drug (Zafirlukast ZAF) was fully encapsulated inside the fibers.•ZAF release which was close to Fickian model, reduced inflammatory response in vitro.
