Abstract
The suicide rate among people with bipolar disorder (BD) is 10-fold greater than the general population, and early onset of illness is associated with an increased risk for suicide attempts (SA) in adults. Up to one third of youth with BD have a history of SA, which is associated with higher rates of comorbid disorders, self-injurious behavior (SIB), psychiatric hospitalization, and a family history of suicide attempts. This study sought to expand on previous research on this important topic.
