Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases(2017)
Abstract
Healthcare disparities continue to be a major theme in America healthcare. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) health has come under increased scrutiny in the last decade. In 2011, the Institute of Medicine published recommendations that LGBT health be the subject of further research to advance understanding of this patient population. Our pilot study aims to describe the LGBT bariatric surgery population at a large academic medical center, in order to increase awareness of this underserved patient population.
