Voltammetric electronic tongue combined with chemometric techniques for direct identification of creatinine level in human urine

•VE-tongue was investigated urinary creatinine directly without any dilution.•Jaffe’s reaction based on UV–Vis spectrophotometry was used as reference method.•VE-tongue could characterize 50 urine samples depending on three creatinine levels.•9 new urine samples were successfully identified using PCA-model as well as SVMs.•Significant correlation was obtained between VE-tongue and Jaffe’s method using PLS.
