Soil and irrigation heterogeneity effects on drainage amount and concentration in lysimeters: A numerical study

•Irrigation heterogeneity causes high variability in drainage quantity.•Heterogeneity in soil causes high variability in drainage solute concentration.•No synergistic effect is found when combining soil and irrigation heterogeneities.•Higher leaching fractions reduce variability of drainage amount and concentration.
