Stochastic Project Scheduling with Hierarchical Alternatives

•We investigate a project scheduling problem with hierarchical alternative methods and uncertain activity durations.•The general mathematical model and the corresponding chance constraint model are formulated.•A metaheuristic combining sampling average approximation with artificial algae algorithm is developed.•Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms GA.
