•The Violence in Health Sector is epidemic, the ED nurses are the most vulnerable.•In literature evidence of specific actions to address or reduce violence is lacking.•Many theories try to explain the causes and identify contributing factors.•From these it’s possible to identify interventions, or global approaches on WPV.
