Abstract
•The great change in DMDF thermal efficiency was investigated by simulating and testing.•Thermal efficiency is improved by methanol quickly burning to increase isochoric degree.•Temperature and concentration of methanol/air mixture on DMDF were investigated.•Quickly burning with controllable heat release is the key characteristics for DMDF.
