Abstract

•Near-Earth asteroid (469896) 2005 WC1 was observed with the Arecibo and Goldstone radar systems with 15 m resolution.•The circular polarization ratio, SC/OC, of 1.12 ± 0.05 is one of the highest values known and suggests a structurally complex near-surface.•2005 WC1 is the first asteroid known with an extremely high circular polarization ratio (SC/OC), relatively low optical albedo, and high radar albedo.•2005 WC1 is an unusually angular object with 100 m-scaled facets.
