Comparison of the role of metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 1 in developmental refinement of neuronal connectivity between the cerebellum and the sensory thalamus

•Synapses in the thalamus and in the cerebellum have similar developmental profile.•The metabotropic glutamate receptor type 1 (mGluR1) is expressed in both regions.•mGluR1 is required for development of both synapses but the role is different.
