Abstract
In order to create reliable DEM from limited altitude data, it is necessary to effectively use the curved surface estimation method. One of the methods available for estimating DEM using altitude data is BS-Horizon (Nonogaki et al., 2012) which is based on cubic B-spline and exterior penalty function. In this study, the parameter settings for the estimating DEM using the BS-Horizon surface interpolation method were investigated. The experiments were carried out using field topographic survey data as elevation constraint condition and also incorporating inequality constraints based contextual relationship denoted by topographic contours. The parameters investigated include numbers elevation points used for spline estimation, the degree of satisfaction of the data and the smoothness of curved surface. We examined the influence of each parameter setting in detail and evaluated appropriate parameter setting criteria for DEM generation.
