Biodiesel production from Jatropha Curcas oil using strontium-doped CaO/MgO catalyst

•Sr2+-CaO/MgO is a highly active catalyst, producing methyl ester at >99%.•High catalytic activity correlates to high basicity and surface area.•The presence of Sr2+ in catalysts promotes catalytic activity.•The presence of MgO in catalysts reduces the overall particle size.•After 4 cycles of catalyst reuse, methyl ester content remains >90%.
