Abstract
Introduction Peoples are contaminated by germs such as Salmonella and Shigellaeither from the environment or by contact with infected animals on the farm They are frequently infected by the consumption of raw or undercooked meat contaminated during the slaughter process These germs are the leading cause of gastroenteritis food borne humans cause symptoms of a wide range of severity usually manifested by a more or less severe diarrhea sometimes requiring therapeutic management Objectives This prospective studycarried out over the period from July to June aims at evaluating the prevalence of Salmonellaand Shigellastrains and determine their resistance to common antibiotics usually available in Central African Republic markets Methods Thecollection of sheets of samples were used to collect the data the technique of the conventional bacteriology was used The isolated bacteria were identified by the API E and LEMINOR galleries The agar diffusion technique was used to determine the antibiotic resistance strains Results Amongst the samples cases of Salmonellaand cases ofShigella were registered Amongst the cases of Salmonellaisolated cases occur in female patients against in male and unspecified cases Likewise amongst the cases of Shigellaregistered cases occur in female patients against cases in male and undetermined cases Identification tests revealed that different Salmonellaisolated were Salmonella paratyphiA and Salmonellaarizonae Likewise among the Shigella strains isolated identification tests revealedShigella flexneri and Shigelladysanteriae Antibiotherapy showed that Salmonella strains were resistant to tetracycline cotrimoxazole and amoxicillin and sensitive to ceftriaxone cefotaxime and ciprofloxacin Likewise those of Shigella were resistant to cotrimoxazole amoxicillin and chloramphenicol and sensitive to ceftriaxone cefotaxime and ciprofloxacin Conclusion This studyrevealed that although both infections were frequent there was more Salmonellainfection than Shigellainfection Salmonella and Shigellainfect much the age group of years and and over The Salmonellaspp and Shigellaspp were the most isolated strains
