•A supersonic spray-coating produces micro-scale lines with triangular cross sections.•Pathways of escaping bubbles have minimal interference because of the triangle shape of the lines.•The rising bubbles remove heat efficiently and facilitate rapid cooling.•The coolant contact angle was investigated to quantify wettability and capillary effects.
