Abstract
Radio-over-fiber technology is regarded as one of the most important technologies for 4G networking. It is very important to generate high frequency microwave signal in RoF systems. High frequency microwave signal generated using traditional electronic method is usually expensive and bulky. Optical ways, due to its high bandwidth and low transmission loss, can be adopted to easily generate very high frequency microwave signals. In this article, we have proposed a way to use Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator to generate a electrical signals not only even times the frequency of the input signal, but also odd times the frequency of the input signal. By setting the bias voltage of Mach-Zehnder modulator at linear biasing point, we can generate odd orders multiplication of frequency of the input signal. By setting the bias voltage of Mach-Zehnder modulator at even frequency multiplication point, we can generate even orders multiplications of frequency of the input signal. In both circumstances mentioned above, the amplitude of the input signal can be adjusted to get the wanted multiplication of frequency of the input signal. The theoretical analysis and experimental results prove the feasiblity of this method.
