Compartment based population balance model development of a high shear wet granulation process via dry and wet binder addition

•A population balance model for wet binder addition wet granulation was developed.•A binder dissolution model was integrated to model dry binder addition.•Wet and dry binder addition wet granulation experiments were performed.•The model was calibrated using experimental data and was used as a predictive tool.•The model showed excellent prediction capability for two different binders.
