Abstract
To analyze the utility of the BSSC in the evaluation of the aging male in the General Pratitioner office. Cross-sectional, descriptive, nation-wide and multi-center study among patients >50 years old who visit the General Practitioner (GP). Exclusion criteria: ECOG>1 or current treatment for ED. Clinical and demographic data were collected and two questionnaires administered: Brief Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire (BSSC) and a 6-item, non-validated questionnaire to assess the utility of it. 860 subjects were recruited with a median age of 60. 580 patiens (67.44%) were insatisfied with their sexuality, for a median period of 3 years. Most of them (80.33%) found the questionnaire slightly or not at all difficult to fulfill and did it in a median time of 5 minutes. Almost half of them (47.09%) found it quite or very useful to discuss their problems with the doctor and 53.48% of them will have brought up no issue if not for the questionnaire. After stratification for sexual satisfaction, those insatisfied found the BSSC more complicated to fulfill and more useful to discuss their problem. A higher rate of subjects will have not brought up the issue (56.7% vs 46.72). No differences were observed for the complementation time. Most of the doctors found the BSSC easy to complete and useful to discuss the sexuality with the patient (82.56% and 62.91%). The doctor/patient agreement for ease and usefulness was moderate.
