Calibration method for the structure parameters of a single linear array CCD-based photoelectric detection system using a matrix inversion transformation

This paper puts forward a calibration method for the structure parameters (i.e., focal length, tilt angle, distance, etc.) of a single linear array CCD-based photoelectric detection system using a matrix inversion transformation. Based on its measurement principle, we can derive mathematical relationships between observed values and measurement results. Correspondingly, we can also obtain a transition matrix to describe the mathematical relationships using a matrix inversion transformation, provided that observed values and measurement results are known. Every element in this transition matrix is a linear combination of its structure parameters, and so this can avoid calculating and calibrating these detailed structure parameters directly. Finally, the measurement results are calculated by a product of the transition matrix and the observation matrix. Through calculation and experiment, the results show that no-calibrated system has an average of 3.56 mm in the x direction and an average of 11.47 mm in the y direction. In contrast, the proposed calibration method exhibited the projectile hit location errors with an average of 1.35 mm in the x direction and with an average of 4.27 mm in the y direction. Therefore, the propose calibration method is correct and feasible.
