Does Race Affect The Quality Of Treatment For Intermediate-Risk And High Risk Prostate Cancer?

e17678 Background: Black men are more likely to develop and die of prostate cancer than white men. Past studies show lower rates of definitive treatment among black men. However these studies included early-stage disease for which treatments may not be beneficial. We undertook this study to assess the quality of prostate cancer treatment among men with intermediate u0026 high risk prostate cancer who could benefit from active therapies. Methods: A Steering Committee of experts in prostate cancer care reviewed the evidence to create quality measures of proven effective treatments of intermediate u0026 high risk prostate cancer. All black and a random sample of white men with Gleason Scores of u003e7, diagnosed at an inner-city academic center between 2007 and 2012, were identified from pathology and charts abstracted for clinical, pathologic and treatment data.
