Abstract
Mechanical cardiac support (MCS) devices can provide a life-saving bridge-to-transplant for patients in heart failure. Unfortunately, most MCS devices are designed for adults and accordingly are too large to optimally support small children. A novel intrapericardial device, the Infant Jarvik 2015 (IJ15), has been designed to meet the needs of small children. The purpose of this study was to perform virtual implantation (VI) of the IJ15 in a cohort of small children in order to determine the lowest appropriate size for patients to be included in an upcoming Pumps for Kids, Infants, and Neonates (PumpKIN) trial.
