Dedicated stripline set-up for the characterization of the shielding effectiveness of board-level shields

In this paper, a novel and versatile stripline set-up dedicated to the characterization of the high-frequency shielding effectiveness of board-level shields is presented. The stripline setup is based upon the stripline set-up described in SAE ARP6248 for the characterization of the high-frequency shielding effectiveness of “on-board” gaskets. In order to allow to easily switch between different board-level shields under test, as well as possible on-board sources, an opening is made in the “bottomplate” of the stripline set-up. The dimensions of this opening are chosen equal to those used in the TEM-cell method for the characterization of integrated circuits. The validity of the whole method is studied based on simulations and measurements up to 14 GHz.
