Utilization Of Sperm Banking In Young Men Undergoing Chemotherapy For Testis Cancer.

122 Background: Testicular cancer is the most common carcinoma in men ages 18-35. Eighty percent of patients with metastatic disease will be cured with cisplatin based chemotherapy. However, approximately 40% of patients receiving chemotherapy will have permanent azospermia or oligospermia, impairing future fertility. Sperm banking prior to chemotherapy is an effective method of maintaining fertility. This retrospective study was performed to assess utilization and results from sperm banking, as well as the barriers to its use. Methods: Patients 18 and older who were 1-year post chemotherapy were given a 5-item questionnaire on follow-up visit. The questionnaire included a mix of quantitative and qualitative questions.
