Abstract
•A series of Pd/Al2O3 catalysts with palladium loadings of 0.125–4wt.% was studied.•Isolated Pd2+ ions are responsible for high catalytic activity in CO oxidation.•Donor sites of alumina stipulate the stabilization effect observed.•Chemisorbed water prevents deactivation of palladium active sites.
