•Y2/3Cu3Ti4O12 (YCTO) ceramics were prepared in different atmospheres.•Dielectric loss of YCTO sintered in O2 atmosphere decreased drastically.•Scaling behavior indicates the relaxation time is temperature independent.•Small polaron hopping is the most probable conduction mechanism.•Distribution of local electrical response time is temperature independent.
