•A room temperature reversible NH3 gas sensor is developed using graphene-SnO hybrid.•Sensor displayed high response during multiple exposures exclusively for NH3 gas.•Sensor showed quick response and recovery times for low concentration of NH3 gas.•Hybrid demonstrated long time stability and high sensing ability for NH3.
