Short and long term effects of a physical activity programa in COPD patients

Abstract
Regular physical activity (PA) is recommended for all chronic obstructive pulmonary disesase patients (COPD); however the strategies to promote increased in PA in short and long term are not uncertain. Objetives: To examine the effects of using a walking guide + diary (WG) or using a diary (DG) on physical activity, and quality of life. Methods: 31 men, moderate-severe COPD, dyspnea grade 2 (MMRC), randomized to 2 grupos. Groupo WG (n=15) and DG (n=16). Assesmente was performed at baseline, 3 months and 1 year after:spirometry, CAT, Baecke questionnaire, total Kcal/day, steps/day (Actifgrap GTX-3) and quality of life (CRDQ). Both groups were combined in one group for analysis. P-value Results: The average age 69.8 years. No baseline differences were found between groups and after 3 months and 1 year in the main variables. CAT improved (p Conclusions: CAT and Baecke questionnaire improved at 3 months and after 1 year compared to baseline in the pooled group. Activity Kcal/day and steps/day improved just in the first 3 months and both declined after one year in the pooled group.
