摘要
Objective: To develop a patient-focused educational video to promote blood pressure management and stroke risk prevention in urban, minority communities. Background: Uncontrolled hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke, particularly among minority groups from medically underserved, urban communities. Improving hypertension and stroke literacy may improve patient knowledge and care.Design/Methods: The video was developed in 3 phases: 1) establishment of educational content using patient-focused groups and a Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) (n=4); 2) audio recording and video animation; 3) evaluation and revision by SAC. In phase 1, patient interviews explored patient demographics and hypertension knowledge with a validated 14-question knowledge scale (Schapira et al: J Clin Hypertens 2012). Systematic literature review on patient education was performed to identify educational approaches that will encourage patient well-being, knowledge retention, and lifestyle changes. IRB exempted the study. Results: 20 patients (35[percnt] male, 65[percnt] female; 85[percnt] Black, 15[percnt] with mixed ethnic heritage) with hypertension were interviewed. 55[percnt] were aged 41-65 years and 45[percnt] were aged u003e65 years. Mean overall score was 50.4[percnt]±14.2[percnt]; range 21.4-71.4[percnt]; median 53.6[percnt]. Several domains with low scores (u003c50[percnt]) were identified. Based on literature review, the importance of seeking social support and teaching others about hypertension management and stroke prevention were emphasized. The narrative script was written based on patient interview with literature review results, and reviewed by SAC before audio and video production. Based on expert input, modifications were made and the 7.53 minute animated video was completed (link below). Conclusions: Our animated video presented hypertension and stroke education based on patient knowledge assessments. Expert evaluation by SAC provided validity of the video’s educational content and design. Development of a tailored educational video allows for future investigation of the effects of tailored hypertension and stroke education on medically underserved, minority communities and high risk populations.https://www.dropbox.com/s/ogvmez5yxq0wqjz/The[percnt]20Pressure[percnt]20is[percnt]20Up[percnt]20-[percnt]20Video[percnt]20v2.mp4?dl=0 Disclosure: Dr. Kwan has nothing to disclose.
