Mid-infrared spectra of comet nuclei

•We observed two comet nuclei with the Spitzer Space Telescope.•Spectral features are similar to those of D-type asteroids.•Spectral features match those seen in the coma of some comets.•Comets and Jovian Trojans likely have similar origins in the Solar System.
