Optimal linear MIMO array design for millimeter-wave near-field imaging

Abstract
In multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar imaging systems, the configuration of antenna array as one of the key techniques has great effects on image quality. In this paper, we discuss the array design method based on equivalent array concept. And we demonstrate the difference of several arrays corresponding to the same equivalent array in the pattern performance in the near-field at high frequency. Due to non-uniqueness of design results, the optimal array selection approach considering both cross-range resolution and grating lobes is proposed. The simulation results confirm the validity of the proposed selection method.
