Seismic arrival enhancement through the use of noise whitening

•A statistics-driven noise suppression technique is proposed.•Whitening procedure is applicable to a number of seismic monitoring scenarios.•Noise energy is reduced by a factor of 3.5.•Microseismic events are imaged at significantly lower SNRs after whitening.•Procedure performance is highly resistant to most changes in noise properties.
