Abstract
This paper presents a quality-of-service (QoS) based RFID system for smart assembly workshop towards the industrial Internet of Things (IoT). Under the context of the industrial IoT, every object in the assembly workshop is interconnected, which enables automated monitor of the production environment, track of the components/products/tools, and control of the machines and the execution process. The proposed RFID system is aiming to handle these different application requests and offer qualified performance correspondingly. The system consists of multiple gateways, each gateway has a built-in web server and manages the communication with both the objects (RFID tags) in the workshop via the RFID link and the upper user via an Intranet. A four-phase communication process based on a contention-free protocol between the RFID tags and gateway is explored for the requirements of QoS implementations in each application scenario.
