Performance of coded frequency hopping systems with adjacent channel interference

Several frequency hopping systems can share the same frequency band using different hopping patterns. However, the risk of interference increases when there are few frequencies in the band and increases further for close co-location and out-of-band emissions from the transmitter. In this paper, we use a statistical method to analyze the impact of interference from a co-located FH system. Different factors affecting the performance, such as number of frequencies, attenuation of out-of-band emissions, transmitter duty cycle and isolation are investigated. To reach a specific codeword error probability demands on the involved factors are derived. The method enables analyses of several factors affecting the performance without time-consuming simulations. Hence, combinations of different solutions can be calculated and compared.
