Abstract
•Hydrogen- (cyan) and oxygen-annealed (white) titania nanowires were compared.•Hydrogenation results in a major increase of photocatalytic activity.•XRD and RBS showed identical bulk crystal structure and atomic composition.•EPR revealed that the better photoactivity is due to 1 at% of Ti3+ surface defects.
