Analysis of wind speed effect on grid integration of PMSG-based WECS

Abstract
In modern era, producing green electrical energy has been a striking issue which coerced many scientists to focus on renewable energy systems (RES). Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based wind turbine is one of the most substantiating kinds of RES. Stochastic nature of wind speed complicates grid integration of wind turbines due to many reasons such as, voltage flicker, injecting variant active power to grid, variation in injected reactive power and etc. This paper models PMSG based wind turbine and furthermore, presents decoupled control schemes for generator side and grid side voltage source converters in order to follow maximum power point tracking (MPPT). In a parallel manner, the controllers try to stabilize DC link voltage in order to guarantee that all the produced active power will be injected to the grid. Moreover, the injected reactive power is controlled to achieve unity power factor. The efficiency of proposed controllers has been investigated under different wind speed scenarios in Matlab/SIMULINK. The results show that the system has succeeded to extract the maximum power from wind and it was injected to grid properly.
