Controlling tile drainage during the growing season in Eastern Canada to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and bacteria loading to surface water

•Controlled tile drainage was monitored from seven field-pairs over nine growing seasons.•Significant reductions in growing season tile effluent N, P, and bacteria fluxes.•Mitigation primarily related to the restriction tile discharge.
