摘要
The objective of this study was to analyse the distributions of the minimum inhibitory concentrations of vancomycin to 'Staphylococcus aureus' isolates found in a selected community. This study analysed 88 'S. aureus' strains isolated in a semi-urban community near Colombo. Out of 88 isolates, 18 were methicillin-resistant 'S. aureus' (MRSA) and 70 were methicillin-sensitive 'S. aureus' (MSSA). The vancomycin MIC was determined by broth microdilution method. The range of vancomycin MIC for the 88 isolates in this study varied between <=0.25-2mg/L. All MRSA and MSSA isolates MICs were <=2mg/L. However, MRSA isolates MICs on average were significantly higher than non-MRSA isolates.
