Differential expression of TRP channels modulate ART outcome

Extensive research has led to the identification of several calcium channels as as mediators of sperm function. Sperm functions like motility, capacitation and acrosomal reaction require decoding a variety of signals in the form of intracellular Ca2+ changes. Transient receptor potential (TRP) protein super family are a diverse group of calcium-permeable cation channels expressed in mammalian cells. The presence and functional importance of TRP channels in the sperm of worms and mammals suggest that TRP channels are broadly utilized across the phyla and might help in constituting an evolutionarily conserved biological pathway, including human.
