Abstract
In this paper, we focus on a beam pattern diversity of user terminals in order to improve the network-wide performance along with an inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC). Previous ICIC works mainly focused on conventional single antenna user terminals, and thus further improvement may be possible by employing the opportunistic scheduling to exploit multi-user and beam pattern diversity. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an ICIC method with beam pattern diversity of user terminals in heterogeneous multi-cell networks. Simulation results show that the ICIC with beam pattern diversity of user terminals can significantly improve the network-wide performance especially for cell edge users' throughput, i.e., 5th percentile throughput.
