Abstract

•Metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes mellitus are related with a pro-inflammatory state and the extracellular matrix degradation.•The control of the inflammatory status and matrix metalloproteinases levels in metabolic syndrome patients and especially those diabetics can be of great help for diagnosis and prognostic of cardiovascular disease.
