Assay and purity control of ticlopidine by thin layer chromatography

The application of HPTLC with UV or visible scanning densitometry provides a simple, rapid, and reliable system for the assay and purity control of ticlopidine. By use of silica gel plates with n-butanol-acetic acid - water (4 + 1 + 5, nu/nu) as mobile phase, all potential impurities were separated from ticlopidine and from each other, and could be quantified by densitometry.Detection limits at a signal-to-noise ratio of 2:1 were below 5 ng per spot. Linearity, reproducibility, and percentage recovery of ticlopidine from dosage forms have been calculated. The method provided reliable results when applied to the analysis of raw materials and tablets.
