摘要
Abstract Anatomy being a foundation for all higher study of organism-level and even population/ecology-level biology, this dimension of scallop biology is presented as comprehensively and concisely as possible. Each major system is presented first at the morphological level, then at the histological and ultrastructural levels. The anatomical underpinnings and functional correlates of salient physiological and ecological processes (e.g. particle processing, reproduction) are described to the extent currently possible. Numerous starting points for further research are evident, and this field holds great promise for advances in the understanding of scallop biology.
